3d printed 8mm paper tape hold down tray

Post by Spikee »

Some people use double sided tape to hold their components down.

I first made an tray for 8mm tapes which works ok. But when the tape is not perfectly flat the components jump out.
Old design:

So... I made a new design:

Version 1:

Version 2: (made the top part a bit thicker to combat the warping on top)

200 mm long

This works great, there is no sideways or up/down play. paper tape fits snugly.
Holes are still clearly visable and the blue provides great contrast for the hole detection.

I plan to have reels on a bar And just slip the tape in these holders.
When lets say 50 parts are gone i can just slide the tape forward, cut off the empty parts and keep on going.

solidworks source included.

Certain paper tapes are a bit thicker and need some persuasion to move. Just stick a screwdriver in there and pull. Or edit the solidworks file and change the 1mm size to 0.6 / 0.75 ;)

VERY Nice! Congratulations and big thank you! Are you going to design a printable reel holder, too?

I have already done that (see my youmagine somewhere). I might mod it through so I can attach it to the liteplacer profile.

For this long of a holder you need to be a bit more persuasive at the end but.. it is doable :)

I need to remove a little bit from one side to make the holes better visible.

Due to the noise it can "make" a full circle of it:

Here are the new files:

Holes fully visible , 0.3mm instead of 1mm "narrowing".
Tape still sits fine in it. It is easier to slide the tape in the holder than the previous design.

Nice. From what material did you print? And how much play does the tape have?

I tried something similar but the tapes were always too loose. So I went for a different approach to hold them in place.

PLA material, there is no "feelable" play sideways or up/down. This is really simple and works great!

Cool. I can't claim "simple" for my approach, but it has additional benefits ;-)
