OpenPNP vs LitePlacer update

Post by pedro_nf »

Hi all,
I saw the OpenPNP vs LitePlacer thread from 2016, I wonder which software would be better today to start with, if you're going to buy the LitePlacer kit.

I am switching from the Liteplacer software to the OpenPNP version. The Liteplacer SW is easier to set up and get going - arguably it makes it easier to work out all the bugs in your build before moving to a different software.
I am hoping to achieve better accuracy with the bottom camera functionality.

So this means that the bottom camera is still absent from Liteplacer software?

that is correct, other than the original usage of measuring nozzle offset

I'm thinking on buying one LitePlacer, for now I have zero experience and knowledge, any info on it will be great for a beginner.

@KeithM: you say you changed to OpenPNP for better accuracy, is it because you were having issues in all components or because you started to use much smaller components?

I am looking to improve the placement accuracy and OpenPnP supports a range of feeders that LitePlacer currently does not without modifying the source.
Liteplacer SW is usable and much easier to get started with.
I am low-volume manufacturing and I have a tremor so nudging parts is not good for my process.

Hi KeithM,

I can't run the latest SW for LitePlacer, is there still missing bottom vision camera for component/rotation correction?

Still missing, but not for long.
