Re: Part pickup detection
Is there a way to do it without the switch? I am thinking of this: The height of the pcb is known, also the ehight of the part tapes, with some tolerances. If i use one of those juki-nozzles, it would be anough to move Z to the height of the pcb and, fopr example, -2mm deeper. The spring in the noz...

Re: Better nozzle with auto change?
Most people put these holders on hollow-shaft-steppers. One problem with hollow-shaft steppers is you can't get them with 0.9-degree step angle. And they're direct-drive so there's no gearing between them and the pickup head. This puts some severe limits on rotational accuracy.... it's still just b...

Re: Placement of integrated circuits
As a LitePlacer user, I believe the mechanics are accurate enough to place at least 0.4mm pitch IC; maybe even smaller - many BGAs should work as well. I'm placing 0.8mm-pitch BGAs on my Liteplacer with no problems. This would not only be relevant for ICs or BGAs but also other larger parts which n...

What also really really sucks is tinyGs reset policy, as soon as you hit a switch, it is game over, restart everything. That is not how cnc machines are supposed to work! I built 4 cnc mills and a cnc lathe, and no, I know what I am talking about. I agree 100%. But when I brought this up, pe...

antivibration dampers
Hey, I put one of these on each of my X+Y motors and wow, the machine sure is a whole lot quieter now! Can't really say it's any faster or more accurate, but I was pretty surprised by the noise difference. It sounds more professional now :) It was a bit of a tight squeeze though on the X-axis motor....

Re: Looking for Feedback from LightPlacer Owners
Unlike the Neoden TM220A and TM240A this uses a fully closed loop control system (using encoders) to prevent stepper motor missteps. Interesting. Do you have more information on where you read this, perhaps with details on what encoder they use? Encoders are something I've been looking into adding.

I also think that USB failure will be pretty easy to recognize and debug - stepper problems (like missing steps) because of internally damaged cables are much harder to pin down... Yes, in fact it's even easy to measure! USB is meant to tolerate a certain amount of noise; "bulk" packets a...
