Re: A support case, interesting for Altium users only
It's not only an Altium problem. My PCB software does it also - the coordinates given are the centre of the footprint.

Computer requirements
How much power is required? I have seen Core i7 systems and crappy netbooks mentioned in threads here... If little power is needed, I like retired thin clients (low power consumption and no noise). They typically have a 1GHz Sempron or an Atom CPU. If a little more is needed, I have some Core2 duo d...

Re: MELF
But if it is possible it would be easier to change your design to the "normal" rectangular design. Low-noise resistors are not cheap - unless you use the MELFs. Bulk metal foil resistors are great - but the price difference would probably make it cheaper to buy a production-grade PnP mach...

Re: MELF
The resistors I'm talking about are quite big. A 0204 MELF is approx. the size of a 1206, and the 0207 MELF is about a 2010. The potentially difficult part is that they are cylindrical rather than flat...

Re: File format and samples wanted
I use Layo1 - ancient DOS software. It creates a space-separated file with fixed width fields. The unit used is 1/1280". This file can easily be converted to CSV format, and 1/1280" converted to mm. But one potential problem is that the origin is the upper left corner, rather than the lowe...

MELF
I don't use the very small passives everyone else seems to use (0805 is the minimum), but I do use a lot of 0204 and 0207 MELF resistors. Does the LitePlacer come with a tool that will handle those? And how would placing something like MSOP-10 ICs work? I try to stay with 0.65mm pin spacing or large...

Re: Ovens
I use a cheap fan-assisted toaster oven with the ControLeo2 controller, and it works very well so far. I soldered a 31x15cm 4-layer board with a solid groundplane today with no problems. I dont have a p&p machine yet though, so placing the parts took some time
