Re: Placing ICs (Video)
We bought Juki nozzle clones, they are pretty popular in the open source community - i think mostly because of easy availability. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/SMT-JUKI2050-nozzle-JUKI-nozzle-500-501-502-503-504-505-506-507-508-free-shipping/32280501719.html?ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_0,searchweb2...

Re: Placing ICs (Video)
If it can do 0402 it can certainly do something with pitch that size. If it was an accuracy issue, all of them would be equally bad - the issue to me appears to be that the parts are over-rotating possibly due to inertia and/or slipping on the needle.

Re: Placing ICs (Video)
I think the parts are too heavy for the amount of vacuum/surface area you have, so they are rotating on the head. You might want to consider using proper pick and place nozzles for parts like that.

Re: gas for extending solderpaste print-to-place time?
Build/buy a screen printing machine to print on demand? I don't think anything much in the solder reacts with oxygen, the real issue is the flux drying out as the solvents evaporate. Perhaps check the MSDS of the paste and find what the solvents might be - then store the boards in a chamber with a p...

Re: CNC software, which would use TinyG
Yup, its all about the optics and spot size. The 10600nm is also a much better wavelength for organics (like plastics/wood). 10600nm dents aluminium foil.. it doenst cut it unless there is a coating like spray paint to turn to plasma... then you have a laser powered plasma cutter haha. Different las...

I dont know that a DVD motor would have enough torque to lift the head?

Re: Better nozzle with auto change?
Yup, basically using the nozzle shaft as a variable inductor by changing the core material (from air to the nozzle shaft)

Re: CNC software, which would use TinyG
For the price of those on ebay.. not worth it. The x/y stage on that is right out of a K40 laser cutter (about US$500) - the controller in them is awful, but you'd better off switching a K40 out with a better controller than a 5.5W laser. 5.5W is a miniscule amount of power... even the 40W laser tub...

Re: Better nozzle with auto change?
I'll have to get some of those nozzles to play with. I'm just starting to work on building a PNP and going a bit overboard on the mechanics... so no reason not to go overboard on electronics too.
