Can't place components

Post by android »

Hi all,
I am encountering a problem while placing components. .There is no issue while placing first component. But when needle go for taking next component " Z max " switch triggers and shows message "Tiny G error review situation and restart if needed". I have to reset Tiny G after that. I tried several times and there is no change.
Does "Zmax " trigger every time needle picks components and place them or does it happen only once.

It should happen only on the first component, when it measures the pickup / placement height. (I have an idea how to make this more robust, but that has to wait until next week, because of the Maker Faire Rome. In the meanwhile: ) I'm guessing your Z limit switch is tuned to be rather sensitive. Easing that a little should help.

I made a mistake in my post.
Actually it happens during the operation of third component.Limit switch triggers when picking and placing the first component and it picks and place second component without hitting the limit.Problem occur when it goes for third component.
Sometimes Zmax triggers when picking up the component sometime it happens when placing component on the board.
I already tried adjusting the limit switch.but problem still persists.

I'm still facing this problem.Anybody have any solutions?
Machine Hits Zmax every time it picks up the third component.I even changed the position of tape.

Does this problem consistently happen with other component tapes as well?

How are you tuning your limit switch? On mine, I can significantly change how much travel the Z axis has against the spring before the limit switch is activated.

When the problem occurs, do you actually hear the limit switch being activated with a click? (this will determine if you have an electrical noise issue)

When the first component triggers the switch, do you hear the switch release? (maybe switch is not releasing and triggering on next touch)

Can you try swapping the limit switch with other one, perhaps move the Y axis max switch onto the Z axis max. (maybe bad switch causing false triggers)

Yes it happens with other tapes as well.I tried to change the position of tape and also adjusted the position of Zmax but still it hits the limit.
Actually there is no problem in placing the second component. It happens when picking up the third component.

I believe I have a software trim that should solve this and some other issues. Next week when I'm back in my office, I will change the software so, that the height measurement parameters that are now internal will become visible and editable. In other words, you will be able to control how much from "barely touching" to "as far down as possible without triggering the switch" the operations actually use. This should be trivial to implement.

The root cause of the problem was too little margin in placement, not allowing any beam misalignment. I suppose your beam is ever so slightly lower on right side. Besides, it forced to use the full downforce on placement.

I published a new software release today, that redid the whole pickup height handling. You can now specify how hard the parts are hit when picked up or placed, from barely touching to full way down. Set right, this will give you enough room between the switch trigger point and the value use in placement.

I've trided the new version. But when it do needle height calibration , before needle touches the board an error message appears.
