Computer requirements

Post by mcs_5 »

How much power is required?

I have seen Core i7 systems and crappy netbooks mentioned in threads here...

If little power is needed, I like retired thin clients (low power consumption and no noise). They typically have a 1GHz Sempron or an Atom CPU. If a little more is needed, I have some Core2 duo desktops with Vista license stickers.

And will Vista or XP work?

I'm currently using a Core2Duo (3GHz, E6850) desktop with Win7 on it, 4GB of RAM and the program is running reasonably well (if it doesn't crash)

I can't give an exact number for processor requirement. The video measurements are the only thing needing processor power. With a low capability computer the system should still run, but the video frame rate would be slower and the system would spend more time in certain steps. At what point it is not usable anymore, is up to you to decide.

The software tries not to do anything special OS-wise, so even XP should work; I believe native webcam support (which is needed) was added in SP3.
