GitHub versions for release and beta

Taking a look at the result of my latest GitHub Sync I would like to suggest to establish a version numbering scheme with

• a beta level branch for the current work in progress
  and a release level for the latest release version.

Then the latest release level source code remains consistent and you do not get (BROKEN) GitHub merges.

Yes. The latest goof was because I wanted to get the office computer (with really big screen) synced from the lab computer (with a screen that fits on the table together with the machine).
