filter to protect solenoid?

I recently discovered why I've been killing so many solenoids: occasionally a tiny 0402 or 0603 gets sucked up into the air line while I'm using a BGA-sized tip.
Obviously I should try not to let this happen, but nobody's perfect.
Is there some sort of filter or guard I can put in the air line between the needle and the solenoid to protect it, without diminishing the vacuum flow too much?
I use a really strong vacuum pump, which I do need for many situations.
Thanks,

What about a small section of kitchen scourer?
I've used these as pre-filters in vacuum bagging/infusion setups, they are quite open so air goes through quite easily but they stop all large (0402 would be large) particles.
Or an actual air line filter? Miniature Air Filters @

The high pressure ones on 1/8NPT fittings would probably suit your air hose best?

On my LitePlacer, I use a small inline filter from Misumi (article number BDFL6):

It nicely fits the 6mm tubes and one touch connectors I use all over the pneumatic system of my machine:

If you are looking for a DIY solution, checkout what Brian Dorey has created:
It is basically a piece of acrylic tube with threads cut into each end and small metal mesh - could also put a piece of kitchen scourer there.

Ah, fantastic, just the ticket.
Mark, I'll definitely keep that scouring pad trick in mind! Probably works well for desoldering vacs, which chew through filters like there's no tomorrow....

I know they are not very professional looking, but if you need something in a hurry, its just a grocery store away and quite effective hehe. Those mitsumi filters look very nice!
