Some hints on better preparation

We are into 1-2 days of building the machine, and found the guide for it so far flawless. Hats off !!
But there's also a couple of things which are not so obvious and worth mentioning. This in my Dutch-English so I hope it is clear a little. Here goes :

First you may run into is the screwdriver for torque screws which can be obtained through the webshop in here. Nothing wrong with that in itself and you might have it already. However, at some stage fairly in the beginning we are advised to use a motor screw driver for the very same (this is also in the "Get the tools" list !). And really, we were glad to have the torque "bits" for that because it easily saves an hour of otherwise manually driving in (and out) the dozens of bolts. IOW you will hate it when you didn't know in advance, working on the first parts of te machine, finding the shops closed.
Additionally, *if* you use a motor screw driver then or a vice is now mandatory or a second person must hold the profiles. The latter is no problem when such a person is around and all together it will take 10-15 minutes for the two of you. With vice ? twice as long I think.

Next there's the necessity of the 5.5mm wrench. Here, open shops might not be helpful either because the 5.5mm and under is not common at all. IOW, quite hard to find.
Do notice though that a small (thin) sized baco will do very well in this case.

Last real thing for this moment is the mentioned (get the Tools) "round file". Do notice that the one required is fairly small at 4.8 mm and it should be that or smaller not only at the tip. Best is one at 4.8mm over all of its length.

Then one small hint for convenience :
When you obtained the wire guidance chain, you will find the advice in Gantry, Step 3 to assemble it. Nothing wrong with that, except for that the further steps to take now must be done with 2 persons (one holding the large / more heavy assembly in place). We'd say that assembly of the chain can well be done at the end of Gantry, Step 7. If not so for a reason I missed, I'll stand corrected !
Of course, when you used a vice anyway this won't be a problem.


I like to express that it is beyond me somewhat how it is possible that such a guide has been created with all the drawings and such. Hand the lot to your kids and tell them it's new Lego. When you come home from work all is finished ...

Thank you for the feedback! I have tried to clarify the preparation page, and I will get the Tx25 tip and 5.5 wrench to the shop. The reason for having the chain mounted at that point is that the chain type I had first came with the end pieces separated, making the installation of the chains a snap-on thing later. Thank you for pointing out that this piece of advice is outdated.

Here is another one which is utterly UNimportant :

With the first two motors it is indicated in the guide at which side to put the wires;
With the third however, it is not (Frame, Step 9). And it is not important either (we think). Still the under side will be the better one.

Point is only : one might be looking for for where to put the wires because it was described with the other two as well.
