Edit: bug fixed version here: http://www.liteplacer.com/Downloads/Lit ... 1_2016.exe
original announcement:
--------------------------------
Build date 10/28/2016
http://www.liteplacer.com/Downloads/Lit ... 0_2016.exe
New Features, significant changes
* It is now possible to use coordinates directly bypassing optical measurements
* Place fast is now the default method
* Made X, Y, Z, A labels on Goto section to buttons, allowing precise moving one axis at a time
Bug Fixes
* Moved tape measuring and nozzle change deeper into the process, eliminating some unnecessary operations
* Added back return to previous position to test buttons
* Reset Zs on selected rows on Tape locations did not work as intended
* Minor layout changes
------
A couple of items here are worth of a few words of explaining:
"Made X, Y, Z, A labels on Goto section to buttons, allowing precise moving one axis at a time":
The low right section of the software now looks like this:
If you click the X, Y, Z or A buttons, the other axis are not affected. So, if you want to go 9.5mm to right, put 9.5 to the box by the X button, select "Relative" and click the X button.
"It is now possible to use coordinates directly bypassing optical measurements":
This allows jig placed parts placement. This is significant because on placing ICs, the accuracy has been limited. Now the machine can know exactly where a part is picked up. With good and careful calibration, placing fine pitch ICs can be done:
Also, this gives better support for strip holders and feeders.

Re: Software release, 10/28/2016
Hi Juha,
this release has something broken.
It can't connect to the machine. (checked by reverting back to the previous release -2016/10/12 - which connects normally)

Thanks,

Send me the log window content or a screenshot, please! I'll have a look anyway, but that would help me to find where exactly it hangs.flying_fred wrote:Hi Juha,

Re: Software release, 10/28/2016
I get a Timeout box with a "Debug: CNC_BlockingWrite: Timeout on command {"sr":""} " message.
Unfortunately the log is uniformative as can be:
Let me know if I can do anything else to help.
Cheers,
Fred

For you maybe, but I know exactly where it gets stuck. The "why" puzzles me, I haven't touched that part of the software for a long time. If you have spare time and want to help:
- Reboot, just in case there are hanging processes around.
- Can you get connection on the Basic setup page, refresh list, clear error?
- What happens when you reset TinyG? Do you get the pop-up message, can you connect then?
---
For others, have you tried this, do you see issues?

Re: Software release, 10/28/2016
Thank you for the new release!
I wanted to try it out but don't know what to copy from the old release folder to the new one to get all settings. I could get most settings but still don'T know how to save
- camera box size and
- Mark 1 to Mark 6 positions

Re: Software release, 10/28/2016
Everything should be saved automatically, just installing over the previous version. I'll have a look for the values you mentioned, I might have missed those.
Re: Software release, 10/28/2016
I always like to install updates in an other folder to have a working system as backup.
In the moment I can not load my previouse tape data into the new version. I get the rows without content...

Re: Software release, 10/28/2016
Hi Juha,
Or maybe is that the absent info that matters?
So, now, I've done more tests with a rebooted PC, a reinstalled last release and paying more attention to the process.
I cannot get connection on the Basic setup page, whatever I try : refresh list, clear error, etc...
When I reset the TinyG I don't get the "TinyG reset" message box. No sign of life at all.
Now, I've noticed some slightly different behaviour:
On my machine I do have 3 COM ports: COM1, COM3 and COM4
The TinyG is COM4, as it where before (checked when opening the FT232 properties box).
The difference is that the Basic setup page port drop list now selects the COM3 port, while on the working release it always automatically selects the right COM4 port.
I've then tested what happens when selecting the COM4 entry in the drop list and pressing the ClearError button, but it doesn't work any better.
If that matters, the PC is on windows7 and I've didn't install anything, apart the usual annoying updates.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Fred.
glad that it tells you something. I'd be curious about where the bit of buried info isJuKu wrote:> Unfortunately the log is uniformative as can be:

Reading the log and the code together tells how far it got, which tells me where to look. And indeed, some checks were omitted at startup when connecting. And it is easy to get it to default to a wrong port. So, it can try to connect to a wrong port at startup with a possible hang.
Fixed (or at least improved) on the connection and saved tapes file issues software:
