I'm going to be working on a project that needs 0402. I use Open PnP and I'm setting up the strip feeders and bottom camera alignment. That all seems to work okay, so far. I am a bit worried about the part size vs the nozzle size. Here's a picture from the bottom camera after the part alignment operation. This is with the smallest nozzle that came with the LitePlacer. It seems like there might be a possibility of the part getting sucked into the nozzle during a pick. Are there smaller nozzles available that might be more appropriate for 0402 parts?
Smaller nozzle for 0402?
Re: Smaller nozzle for 0402?
This doesn't look you are using the smallest nozzle. Since you say you are, it seems that I have sent you wrong nozzles? Please check your nozzles. The tip sizes should be (in / out)
#1: 0.45 / 1.0
#2: 0.8 / 1.5
#3: 1.4 / 2.2
#4: 2.4 / 4.0
#5: 4.0 / 6.2
#6: 7.5 / 9.0
Send me email if this is not what you got, and I'll make it right.
The 0402 is nominally 1.0 x 0.5mm, so it will not fit to the smallest nozzle. For reference, this is what a 0402 looks on my nozzle:
Finally, a general answer: The nozzles are Samsung equivalents, CP40 type. I'm not aware of smaller than the smallest in the kit, CP40 N045. The type numbers go by inner diameter, so the second smallest is CP40 N08 and the largest is CP40 N75.
